God's Cure for Chaos

How would you describe our world today?  For me, the word is chaos.  Webster provides three points of definition. 1. Obsolete as in a chasm or abyss.  2. the state of the universe before there was any order and before stars and planets were formed.  3. a state of utter confusion.  All of these are wrapped up in the phrase, “a lack of order.”  Without order there is disarray, a lack of control, unreliable, unpredictable, bedlam and turmoil.  All of these adjectives seem to apply to our world today.  If chaos were a fire, does our governmental leadership have the needed water to put out the fire of protesters, terrorists and random assassins?  Further, is the government our best source for help?

In order to answer the question, we must understand where chaos is born.  The reason dictionaries will define chaos as the state of the universe before there was any order, is because the origin of its meaning goes all the way back to the very beginning.  Genesis 1:2 says

Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.  The word chaos comes from “formless and empty,” the condition of the universe before creation or matter/time/space.   There was no order.  However, it also says that the Spirit of God was there.  And so, it was out of chaos, that God created order.  In the universe, there is order.  In the galaxy and the solar system, there is order.  There is order in planet earth (atmosphere, life cycle, water cycle, plant cycle and animal cycle).  There is even order in the human body.  The only place where this is NOT order on planet earth is in the relationships of man.  More specifically, order is lost when man rejects God.  This is true in the individual heart and subsequently in the community.  Disorder is the result of greed, jealousy, rage, sexual immorality, bitterness, unforgiveness and any other rejection of the goodness of God.

Atheists have been using the slogan, “good without God.”  The reality is that without the one true Creator God there is disorder and chaos.  The reason why we are the only things in all of creation that are in disorder is because we have rejected God.  This is something that a government cannot provide.  It is an individual choice.  Our constitution was leveraged on the idea that man could not only live in self-government, but that he could live in self-restraint under the leadership of God in his heart.  Without the self-restraint that comes from a relationship with God, we will not be able to sustain a community of self-government.  God’s cure for chaos is Himself, in Jesus Christ.

Our world is in chaos, folks today, don't know what to believe, if they believe anything...but the most comforting and assuring thought for me, is that The Lord God Almighty is still on his throne. We are not in control, be HE is and in the very end, even as we fret over the times today, we know that in the very end JESUS WINS, HE is victorious over all the earth! Giving me calming assurance of peace and hope.

After spending a week in the Texas Hill Country, you can see God in the world around us. He is in the earth, the water and the Sky. No Chaos in Creation. The Cypress Trees line the Medina River, giving shade and beauty. The Water is Crystal Clear and cool bubbling from the spring deep within the earth. Then the moon, the stars and the sun giving light both night and day.
